Land Programs & Hotels

  • Experience the diversity of New Zealand’s North Island with Auckland and its spectacular harbor location as your base. In contrast to the gentile white sand beaches of the city suburbs, visit the rugged west coast of Auckland where the Tasman Sea pounds the black sand beaches. Visit a vineyard and travel to the fertile countryside south of Auckland to experience the glowworm caves at Waitomo and enjoy a farm to table lunch at a private homestead.

Note: Due to varying terrain, this program is not suited for guests with walking difficulties or those who rely on use of a wheelchair or scooter.

Operational note: due to cyclone damage done in 2023, the much-loved Maukatia Gannet Track and access to the Takapu Refuge / Gannet Colony at Otakamiro Point are still closed for remedial work. Should access be re-opened when our groups are visiting New Zealand, all efforts will be made to re-include this stop in the program.

    DAY 1

Upon arrival at the Auckland Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure and dinner is on your own. Transfer time is approximately 45 minutes.

Check in is at 3:00pm. If you have an early arriving flight, you may wish to book an extra night so that your room is available upon arrival.

    DAY 2

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, depart from the hotel, for a brief sightseeing tour of the city which will include a drive along the waterfront. A stop will be made at Bastion Point for views over the harbor before continuing through the eastern residential suburbs. Also see the Auckland Domain, the Auckland Museum (no visit), and Parnell Village. Then head to the farming and wine-growing areas of West Auckland - Kumeu and Huapai - to Muriwai Beach on the rugged west coast. A stop is made on the cliff tops overlooking the beach. From here there is a walk of approximately 250 meters, through native plants to the glorious black sand.

From Muriwai, travel through rural farming districts to a local winery for lunch and a tasting. West Auckland is the Cities original wine region that boasts a range of wineries to tantalize your taste buds. You will be introduced to a delicious range of artisan cheeses, honey from the vineyard, local olive oil and stone-ground sourdough bread before a delicious BBQ. There is an opportunity to meet locals and enjoy a range of locally made gifts and produce.

On leaving the winery, return to Auckland city by way of the farming areas of Waitoki and Dairy Flat to join the northern motorway at Albany. Continue into the city across the Auckland Harbor Bridge and through the downtown shopping area.

Arrive back at your hotel in Auckland. Dinner is on your own.

    DAY 3

Today's tour will begin with a drive through the city's central business district before departing from the city and travelling along the southern motorway past the city's southern suburbs and over the Bombay Hills. Descend into the Waikato River Valley and follow the course of the river through the fertile farmlands of the region to the coal-mining town of Huntly. Continue south past Taupiri (the mountain is sacred to the Maori people) and the town of Ngaruawahia, the seat of the Maori King.

Undertake a guided tour of the world-famous Waitomo Glow-worm Caves, a true geological phenomenon of nature. Unique to New Zealand, these tiny creatures radiate a fluorescent blue-green glow that illuminates the caves and underground streams the glow-worms call home. The largest chamber of the cave is known as the "Cathedral," an acoustically perfect auditorium that has hosted a number of renowned performing artists drawn to the area for the purity of sound it produces. As you embark on a short cruise in an open boat through the limestone formations, your guide will share information, legends, and facts about this fascinating and beautiful oddity of nature.

You will have lunch at a private homestead where your hosts have been farming for many years and love to share their lovely French provincial home and gardens with you. Lunch is a delight, and all food is made on the premises, including many chutneys and sauces, from the fruit trees on the property. All meat is organic and comes from local farms.

After lunch, return through the pastoral Waikato region to Auckland. Back in Auckland and your hotel, the

remainder of the evening is at your leisure with dinner on your own.

    NOTE:

•Bring comfortable walking shoes and a warm jacket for the visit to the caves.

•The Waitomo Glow worm Caves are accessible to those with reasonable mobility, with good handrails and paths

    •There is no wheelchair access

    DAY 4

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. After check-out, board your coach for a transfer to the ship for embarkation.

    Check out is at 11:00am.

•The order of sites visited may vary to avoid congestion. Program times are approximate, given here for general reference purposes and subject to change.

You will then receive a final itinerary from our ground operator with a Welcome Letter upon arrival or at your hotel. What to Bring:

As it will be summer light clothing is suggested. However, as the weather can be changeable is recommended that a rain proof jacket be carried. Sunscreen is considered essential.

There may also be a need to climb steps or stairs on occasion. Dinner will be on your own this evening.

Upon arriving at Waiheke Island, you will be greeted by a local guide and commence on a private tour of Waiheke Island. On the way you’ll see stunning scenery around every corner, and you’ll be entertained by your guides commentary on the history, geography, culture, people and produce of Waiheke. Visit the spectacular Church Bay Studio of Gabriella Lewenz, who works in vivid abstract oils, followed by a visit at the Waiheke Community Art Gallery which displays works by local and national artists, bringing the best of New Zealand art to the island and offering the best of Waiheke art to the world.

Drive along the scenic northern route, taking in spectacular views of the Hauraki Gulf and beyond to the Coromandel Peninsula to your lunch and wine tasting at Stonyridge Vineyard (or similar). Then onto another local vineyard for wine tasting and Oysters, learn about how the local Te Matuku Bay Oysters are uniquely farmed in a marine reserve down the remote Eastern End of Waiheke Island before heading back to the wharf for the return ferry back to Auckland.

The remainder of the day will be at your leisure, allowing you time to further relax and do whatever you please.

    DAY 3

A stop will be made at Bastion Point for views over the harbor before continuing through the eastern residential suburbs. Also see the Auckland Domain, the Auckland Museum (no visit), and Parnell Village. Then head to the countryside on the outskirts of Auckland. The land here is some of the country’s most fertile, making it ideal for growing fruits and vegetables and raising stock.

As you travel from place to place, visiting a farm and stopping for a cheese tasting, your guide will pick up ingredients for your lunch at Vineyard Cottages.

Once you arrive at the venue, owner Elle Armon-Jones will lead you on a tour of the vineyard and vegetable garden. Afterwards, you will be free to relax on the verandah as lunch is prepared or you might join in the preparation.

As lunch is cooking, Elle will present a tasting of olive oil and stone-oven baked breads. The experience will add yet another dimension to your grasp of the nuances of the cuisine. A selection of local beers and wines will be thoughtfully paired with the two courses to enhance the experience.

Back in Auckland, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

    Day 4

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will begin a scenic driving tour of Auckland’s waterfront, with a stop for photos of the harbor from Bastion Point. • One of the best-known structures in the world, Agra’s fabled Taj Mahal will awe your senses and forever capture your heart. Considered to be the finest example of Mughal architecture, the Taj Mahal is a glistening mass of white marble and semi-precious stones set amid impeccably landscaped grounds. This program includes the opportunity to visit three UNESCO world heritage sites: the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and the ancient city of Fatehpur Sikri; all of which are legacies from Mughal times.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    DAY 1

After disembarkation from the ship in Cochin, you will proceed to the airport for your flight to Delhi.

Upon arrival at the Cochin airport, you will receive boarding passes and proceed through security. Your bags will be transported to the airport in a separate truck for an advance check-in. Dinner will be served on the flight.

On arrival in Delhi, transfer to your hotel for check-in.

Soup and finger sandwiches are served prior to retiring for the evening.

    DAY 2

After breakfast, check out and drive to Agra via the new Yamuna Expressway with vistas of India’s vast rural farming countryside.

Agra, the city of Taj Mahal was one of the grand cities of South Asia. With the arrival of the Mughals in 1526 led by Babur, Agra entered a completely new era during the reign of emperors Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jahan. Akbar made it a great center for learning, art, commerce and culture. Its cosmopolitan bazaars and its strategic location on the river Jamuna, was altogether a worthier setting for the focus of an empire.

Upon arrival in Agra check-in to your hotel. Oberoi Amarvilas is voted as one of the top three hotels of the world. Its classical architecture is complemented by elaborate Mughul gardens, terraced lawns, fountains, reflection pools and pavilions and every room has a frontal view of the Taj Mahal.

After lunch visit Agra Fort, a World Heritage Site credited to Emperor Akbar, India’s great visionary. His sons and theirs added to this imposing structure situated by the banks of the Yamuna River. The astonishing palaces, mosques and audience halls contained within its massive walls of red sandstone became once more a monumental mission of the Mughal Empire embellished by the artistic fusion of Islamic and Hindu tradition.

Back at your hotel, and after some time to freshen up, enjoy the classical dance form of Kathak in the ballroom. A buffet dinner follows the dance performance.

    Day 3

Enjoy tea, coffee, juices and rolls in the lobby before departing for the Taj Mahal. With its incredible lacy white grandeur, it is perhaps the most perfect architectural monument in the world. In memory of his wife, the great Mughal emperor Shah Jehan planned this most extravagant and incomparable monument built for love. Although amazingly graceful from any angle, it is the close-up detail, which is really astounding.

Return to your hotel for breakfast.

    Morning option following breakfast:

•Drive an hour into the Indian countryside to visit Fatehpur Sikri, the red sandstone former capital of the Mughal empire. The city lived between A.D. 1571 up to 1585 and then became a ghost town, abandoned, possibly due to complexities with the water systems.

•Visit the Tomb of Itmad-Ud-Daulah in the old city, the first Mughal structure pioneering the extensive use

of `pietra dura’, the inlay work of marble, so characteristic of the Taj Mahal. This mausoleum is small and squat when compared to the Taj, but the more human scale has its own attraction, and the skillfully patterned surface of the tomb is exquisite.

    Afternoon Options following lunch:

•Visit the Tomb of Itmad-Ud-Daulah as described above

•At the hotel, Agra’s leading astrologer will be available for consultation. Appointments for an analysis of your personal horoscope can be made at the Regent Seven Seas Hospitality desk

•Take a look at some of Agra’s famous shopping …. Kohinoor, erstwhile jewelers to the Mughal court, featured in National Geographic. Old emerald necklaces, enamel, jewelry, silver, pocket watches in Gold and silver, textiles and embroidery form part of their private collection. The Marble Inlay factories steeped in this decorative art culture are also a specialty of Agra.

Later in the day revisit the Taj Mahal at sunset where the monument appears to change its hue, tinted by the glow of the setting sun.

Dinner will be served back at your hotel

    Day 4

Early this morning, return to Delhi for a flight to Mumbai. Tea, coffee, juices and rolls will be served in the lobby prior to departure.

At the airport, collect boarding passes and proceed through security and then onto the plane for the flight to Mumbai. A packed lunch is served at the airport and snacks are served on the flight.

Upon arrival in Mumbai, transfer to the pier to rejoin your ship.

  • Gain an extraordinary perspective of the gorgeous Pink City of Jaipur through its architectural highlights and observe iconic wildlife such as Bengal tigers on game drives in a national park.

Special Note: Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC), CPAP breathing machines or scooters should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

    Day 1

After disembarking the ship in Cochin and attending to immigration and customs formalities, you will proceed to the airport. Baggage is transported in a separate van to the airport for pre-check-in.

On arrival, receive boarding passes and pass through security before boarding a flight to Jaipur via Hyderabad. Refreshments and dinner will be served aloft.

Jaipur is the capital of the desert-like state of Rajasthan, a land rich in legends of romance, chivalry, sacrifice, and heroic deeds.

You will spend the night at the Jai Mahal Palace, the former residence of the Prime Minister. Its graceful architecture is uniquely Rajput, with cupolas, minarets, and arched doorways. Open-air verandahs spill out onto lovely grounds where peacocks strut.

    Day 2

Following breakfast, explore the Pink City, where an enduring charisma of the past blends with the throbbing vitality of today. The scholar and astronomer Jai Singh founded Jaipur centuries ago, and it is considered India’s first planned city. It is often called the Pink City for the predominant color of its buildings.

Continuing to old Jaipur, you will visit the Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds, a fine example of Rajput artistry. It is constructed of red and pink sandstone, beautifully outlined with white borders and motifs painted with quick lime.

You will then head toward the City Palace, a sprawling structure surrounded by a high wall. The royal family lives in a portion of the palace. Other areas have been converted into museums displaying textiles, costumes, paintings, and carpets.

Across from the palace, you will find the open-air royal observatory Jantar Mantar, an esteemed World Heritage site. Jai Singh ordered its construction in the 18th century. It contains the world’s largest stone sundial, among other astronomical instruments.

As a traditional center of commerce, Jaipur has a variety of attractions, many best explored individually. Bustling bazaars are laden with souvenirs, carpets, world famous gems and jewelry, the specialty being traditional hand block printed fabric, antique textiles, and handicrafts.

After lunch, take a 3 ½ hour drive through the countryside to the famous tiger sanctuary at Ranthambore.

Check-in to the Vanyavilas, designed as a `Jungle Camp’ and lies adjacent to the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. The resort is set in nineteen acres with an emphasis on maintaining the natural environment with well-established trees, flora, and a large water body. There’s an orchard of lemon, guava, and mango trees, along with a viewing tower facing the sanctuary.

Your accommodation will be in a spacious luxury tent with a beautifully appointed interior and a private deck.

Dinner and overnight at Oberoi Vanyavilas.

    Day 3

Coffee, tea, and rolls are served at dawn before proceeding on a drive through the park in a Jeep or canter safari vehicle with expert naturalists. They will point out and describe the great diversity of birds, mammals, and major predators.

The deep gorges of Ranthambore serve as hideouts for animals such as leopards, tigers and sloth bears. The forest also provides a natural habitat for spotted deer and sambar, the largest Asiatic deer. Woodland, ground and water birds are plentiful, including red junglefowl. Although Ranthambore was once a hunting ground for Bengal tigers, it has become a research and conservation area for these magnificent animals, especially in the last decade or so.

The 10th-century Ranthambore Fort that overlooks the reserve is so historically important that UNESCO deemed it a World Heritage site. You may notice various animals resting on its ancient ramparts.

Return to the resort for breakfast and a morning at leisure.

You may choose to visit Dastkar, an extraordinary center for crafts, the majority of them created by women as their sole means of income. The bazaar at Dastkar helps the local villagers become self-reliant, as the craftspeople sell their products independent of a commercial middleman. You will view them creating a huge variety of traditional items by hand.

Later in the afternoon, you will enjoy a second game drive, exploring yet another area of the national park with a naturalist guide.

Return to the resort at dusk.

Lunch, dinner, and overnight at the Oberoi Vanyavilas.

    Day 4

After an early breakfast and check-out from the hotel, you will drive to the airport for a flight to Mumbai. A packed lunch will be served at the Jaipur airport and refreshments served aloft.
